Tried & Hated Tested (Makeup/Skincare)
Ok so hate is a strong word but these are products that I’ve tried and for whatever reason, they ended up not working for me. That said, just because it didn’t work for me, doesn’t mean it won’t work for you or that I think they’re terrible.
Hope you find this helpful, let me know what products you’ve tried! Find anything you love that I should try?
1. StriVectin-SD Eye Concentrate
I had heard good things about this so I tried not to get my hopes up. Although it says it’s meant for wrinkles I had also heard it worked well for dark circles and puffiness. I gave it almost a full month before deciding to trade it in. During that time it did little to improve darkness or puffiness. But one thing I did kind of like was that it FELT like it was doing something haha. I’m not sure which ingredient did it but after applying it gave me a slight warming and tightening sensation. I imagine if I had noticeable eye wrinkles this would have helped but I can’t tell you for sure.
2. Yu-Be Moisturizing Skin Cream
I originally purchased this for my mom who was complaining of really dry skin on her legs (especially during the winter). I noticed she hadn’t used much of it so I decided to try it and see why. Although it does seem to work well on rehydrating or getting rid of dry skin, the formula is really thick and sticky. Even after thoroughly massaging it in the skin is left feeling pretty weighed down. Also, something in it made me really itchy.
I can see using this if maybe you have really dry feet and you put some on before bed, wear those sockies over it and then sleep with it on. That is, if you don’t get itchy from it.
3. MAC Face and Body Foundation
I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again - 9 times out of 10 MAC foundations break me out and I try to avoid recommending them to anyone for daily use (and this is coming from a girl who worked for MAC)! Although I keep this in my kit and LOVE it for other people, this is just one of those products that doesn’t work for me. It doesn’t sit well on my skin no matter how I try to work it/pair it and then on top of that it just breaks me out. I know I’m not alone either because there have been times on jobs that models have told the MUA that they have a reaction to F&B. So have a back up!
Despite the fact this doesn’t work on my face, it love this for legs (duh Face and BODY). I mix a bit with moisturizer and VOILA! BARBIE LEGS!

4. Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner
Now this product isn’t bad at all. This is just a case of “I prefer _____ over this.” If you’re looking for a nice liquid eyeliner in pen form - this is a great option. It won’t move once applied and yada yada yada. HOWEVER, if you’ve been following me for a while you’ll know that I use the Kat Von D Tattoo Liner and I prefer it over Stila.
Why? a) Stila’s is a felt tip vs. KVDs is a fine tipped brush which I feel gives more flexibility and precision. I get a better cat eye “flick” out of it. b) Stila’s formula can ball up/get flakey if you layer strokes. It also looks a bit more shiney. c) KVD’s is cheaper (meh, just by $2).
Basically KVD’s does everything Stila’s does, but in my opinion, better. One last note, despite the fact KVD’s advertises “water resistant” I’ve never had a problem with it running or smudging.
5. Clarins Bright Plus Brightening Hydrating Day Lotion
This one simply broke me out. That’s all. I was looking for a light daytime moisturizer and decided to give this one a shot. Looking back, I got a poor recommendation by someone who didn’t work exclusively with the brand so I should’ve known better but I thought “Why not?”. I only tried this twice but by the end of the day I had little bumps all over my skin. WOMP WOMP!
Right now I’m trying their Hydra-Matte and haven’t had the same reaction but I’m not ready to give feedback on it yet!
